Watch This:
Say This: Valentine’s has become one of the biggest holidays of the year. In 2016 Americans spent approximately 19.6 billion dollars on Valentine’s Day. Every dollar spent on candy, flowers and jewelry was trying to communicate one word: LOVE. Unfortunately our world has a serious misunderstanding of what this word actually means.

Say This: Jesus said God’s greatest commands revolve around the concept of love: Loving the Lord God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and loving others as we love ourselves. God understands that our most significant love relationship is our relationship with Him.
Ask This: How can we show God we love Him?
Say This: If we are to love Him fully, we must be willing to be obey His command to give love to others. When we do this we are able to experience truly loving relationships with the people around us. And we express love to other by what do more than what we say.
Ask This: If I could not talk, how would you know I love you? How can we give love to others without talking to them?
Say This: In spite of what movies and music say, true love is not about our feelings but about our faithfulness. God showed us the ultimate example of love by giving His Son to forgive our sins. We should try to show that same type of love to the people He brings into our lives.
Ask This:
- How did Jesus show His love for God (His Father) while He was here on earth?
- How did Jesus show His love for other people while He was here on earth?
- What is one specific step you can take towards the goal of loving God with all of your heart, soul and mind?
- What are some ways that our family does a good job of loving one another? What are some things we need to work on?
- Who is one person in your life that you can make a greater effort to love? What is a specific way you can seek to show that person love?
Try This: Put up a large sheet of paper somewhere in your home where it can stay up for a while. Write “Love is” at the top, then start the list off with a few examples of what love is for your family. This could be things like helping each other with chores, listening to mom and dad, and saying sorry. Leave the paper up and encourage your kids to write something down whenever they think of it. Discuss the list frequently and have the kids give examples of instances when they demonstrated their love to a family member based on the list.
Pray This: Dear God, thank you for providing us the perfect example of love through your son Jesus Christ. It is humbling to realize that he willingly offered his life so that our sins could be forgiven. We pray that your example will challenge our family to obey you fully, and to serve one another joyfully. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
